The Univision prepaid card is a debit MasterCard, issued by the Bancorp Bank, a member of the FDIC. The Univision MasterCard does not require a credit check or a background check. You can be approved even if you are not a U.S. citizen.
You will however need to comply with the U.S. Patriot Act. This means that your identity can be verified. If you do not have a Social Security number you will have to provide a valid form of ID, such as a drivers license or passport.
How The Univision MasterCard Works
The first step is to apply for your Univision MasterCard online by visiting http://www.univisiontarjeta.com/en/. Your Univision prepaid card will arrive in the mail in approximately 7 to 10 business days. When you get your prepaid MasterCard you will need to activate it.
Activation is free, and you will need to call a toll-free 1-800 phone number or visit a website address. This is a security feature to make sure that you have received your personalized prepaid card, and not someone else.
That last step is to deposit money on your card, then you can use it for purchases right away. Your Univision prepaid card will be accepted for purchases in retail stores, online, and over the phone.
How To Add Money To The Univision Prepaid Card
You can sign up for free direct deposit and this will provide you a faster way to get your money. You can use this for your paychecks, government benefit checks, and even your tax refund. You can also deposit cash by visiting a Western Union or MoneyGram location.
In addition you can deposit cash by purchasing a REloadit Pack or Green Dot MoneyPak. These are available at thousands of retail locations nationwide. It will require you to purchase the reload pack for about $5 from the retailer.
A neat benefit about the Univision MasterCard is that you get free ATM access at AllPoint Network ATM’s. These ATM’s are located at many popular retail stores such as Target, and there are currently 35,000 ATM’s you can use for free. You can use other ATM machines but you will be charged a $1.95 fee. The ATM machine is also likely to charge you a fee.
Univision MasterCard Fees
There is a standard $9.95 monthly fee with the Univision debit card. And this prepaid debit card with no fees hidden in the fine print, is unlike many other prepaid debit cards that do contain hidden fees. The only other fees you can be charged with the Univision MasterCard include:
- $1.95 out-of-network ATM withdrawal fee
- $9.95 card replacement fee
- An express shipping fee
- A check refund fee
- And a 2% foreign currency conversion fee
It is important to double check all the fine print to make sure this fee schedule is up to date, before you apply for a Univision MasterCard. You will be provided a $0 Liability Policy, just in case your prepaid reloadable MasterCard is ever lost or stolen, you will not be responsible for fraudulent charges.
Your money will also be protected by the FDIC. You can get free text and email alerts about your account activity. And 24/7 online account access.
Univision Prepaid Debit MasterCard Review
While a $9.95 monthly fee is standard, there are other prepaid cards with lower monthly fees, such as the Chase Liquid prepaid card that carries a $4.95 monthly fee. We do like that Univision offers you free ATM access at many ATM locations. From all appearances the Univision MasterCard looks like one of the top prepaid cards on the market.
