American Coradius International – 3 Steps To Protect Your Rights And Your Credit Score
1. Is This Your Account?
It is not unheard of for collection agencies to collect on bogus accounts. Sometimes this can be cases of identity theft but it has happened to individuals who never owned the debt. In other words, the collection agency goofed!
If you recognize the debt account ACI is contacting you about, then you should consider the statute of limitations. This law says that many consumer debts will be restricted to a time window for which you can be held legally responsible for repayment. This time window is typically seven years.
After this statute of limitation expires then the debt is forgiven. You are no longer legally responsible for repayment. There are a few exceptions to this law such as, federal defaulted student loans.
There are reports that American Coradius International or ACI Collections will attempt to collect on debts after the statute of limitations has run out. If your account is aged past the legal time window, then you do not have to pay ACI.
2. Request Debt Validation
It is very smart to request American Coradius International validate your debt account, before you submit a payment. When you request debt validation it requires ACI to provide you with the legal documentation that they own your debt account, and can legally collect payment on.
If ACI is unable to provide you with this evidence, regardless of if it is simply misplaced paperwork or otherwise, then your debt is not valid. You are not responsible for repayment and ACI is required to contact the credit bureaus to have them clean credit report information they reported about your account.
3. Negotiate A Settlement Payment
If your debt with American Coradius is valid and legit then you should negotiate a settlement payment for less than the amount they are attempting to collect from you. As a condition of your settlement payment, you need to get ACI to agree that they will stop reporting your account information to the credit bureaus.
Both of these requests are very common and ACI will have no problem agreeing, provided you are paying off debt in collections. The purpose of this agreement is after you submit your settlement payment, then you can start disputing credit report items and remove the negative information ACI has reported.
When the credit bureaus get your dispute and find it valid they will contact American Coradius International to investigate the item. However, ACI will not verify the account because of your settlement agreement. If the credit bureaus are unable to verify your account during their investigation, they are required to remove the item from your credit report by law.
In sum, your credit score is just like your Grade Point Average in school days. It matters not if you’re acing all your classes, if you’re failing Gym class, because this one negative mark is going to ruin your overall GPA.
This is also true of your credit score. FICO clearly says this. And this is exactly why it so essential to clear credit file dings, blemishes, and remove any negative items. We encourage our members to consider professional, legal, and legitimate credit cleaning services to help.
Because in 2016 alone, over 9 million negative items were removed from consumer’s credit reports. One of the best firms is the Credit Pros. They’ve helped client’s successfully remove collections, late payments, charge offs, judgements, liens, and many more negative credit report items.
